The San Antonio River Authority (River Authority) is once again launching the Be River Proud Kayaking Event Series, which will allow participants to enjoy the San Antonio River from a unique point of view! The River Authority operates close to 60 miles of paddling trails throughout the San Antonio River Basin, including maintained put-in and take-out access points. The kayaking event series will include paddling trips featuring the River Authority trails and will offer an opportunity for the public to engage with the river and learn about the parks and trails operated by the River Authority throughout its four-county service district.

The River Authority hosts the Be River Proud Kayaking Event Series in collaboration with several organizations, including our nonprofit partner the San Antonio River Foundation and Canoe Trail Goliad. The kayak event series officially launched in 2019 with a kickoff event on the San Antonio River Walk Mission Reach and nighttime kayak along the San Antonio River Walk Museum Reach to enjoy the River of Lights during the holidays. The kayaking events were halted in 2020 due to the pandemic, and now as we’re relaunching this kayaking event series, we’re adding some new offerings in addition to the original event lineup.

The River Authority will provide several different kayaking events from August 2021 through June 2022 to give you an experience along the San Antonio River that you will never forget. We’ve added more Mission Reach and Museum Reach events, including the popular holiday nighttime River of Lights event and a day of family fun at Mission Reach Flotilla Fiesta in April 2022 as the official paddling event of Fiesta San Antonio®. For more experienced and competitive paddlers, we are developing the SASPAMCO Paddling Trail race which will take place March 2022. We will also be supporting the Canoe Trail Goliad’s Fall and Spring Flotillas along the Goliad Paddling Trail. Finally, the River Authority is working with the San Antonio River Foundation to develop an experiential kayaking trip experience that will include tour guides, food, and other experience enhancements – stay tuned for more information about these exciting group tours offered by the San Antonio River Foundation.

Even if it’s your first time, we invite you to come out to one our kayaking events where kayaks, paddling gear, and life vests will be provided. Make sure to look over our event schedule and stay connected for all event updates and registration details. Hope to see you out on the river with us!
