River Authority to Host Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event in Karnes County
KARNES COUNTY, TX – The San Antonio River Authority (River Authority) in partnership with Karnes County and the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office, are hosting a free Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event on Saturday, April 24, at the Youth County Show Barn, 1480 CR 345.
Anytime between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m., Karnes County residents may stop by and drop off unwanted household hazardous waste, tires, paint, used motor oil & filters, cleaning products, pesticides, computers, small electronics, and pharmaceuticals. This is a free event and is first come first serve. Participants are requested to remain in their vehicles and when speaking with event staff to wear a mask.
“I’ve been working with the San Antonio River Authority on these collection events for several years now and have seen how much they are needed in Karnes County,” said Karnes County Precinct 1 Commissioner Shelby Dupnik. “These collection events are important to our community because they offer a safe, easy, and free way for residents to dispose of unwanted hazardous waste.”
The River Authority hosts these annual household hazardous waste collection events with the hope that it will lead to a reduction in waste that enters our water and bring awareness to communities about the negative effects of improperly disposing waste. The River Authority’s vision is to inspire actions for healthy creeks and rivers and is grateful to the local partners, governments, and organizations that work together to make these collection events successful.
“Karnes County has seen great success with the Household Hazardous Waste Collection events. Last year alone, we collected over 28,000 pounds of waste,” said River Authority Karnes County Board Member Gaylon Oehlke. “Together we are working to protect the San Antonio River Watershed.”
