Last Updated on May 1, 2024

Hello San Antonio River supporters—let’s go for a bike ride!

Biking is a “wheelie” great way to get out and enjoy nature. The San Antonio River Authority has various bike trails in all four counties that it serves: Bexar, Wilson, Karnes, and Goliad. Biking offers a unique perspective of nature, and we would like to highlight three of the bike trails in available for you next pedal-pushing adventure in our River Authority parks!

Whispers along the Mission Reach: Artist Arne Quinze

The San Antonio River Walk Mission Reach is an 8 mile restoration project that contains 16 miles of trails. Most of the trails along this stretch of the river are paved and contain beautiful pieces of art. Some of the art along this stretch of the river that you will see on your ride include Whispers by Arne Quinze (pictured above), Arbol de la Vida: Memorias y Voces de la Tierra by Margarita Cabrera and Cocobijos by Mel Chin just to name a few.

Along this trail, there are also many places to stop rest and take in the natural beauty of the restoration project. One of the largest stops is at Confluence Park, which has been envisioned as an interactive teaching tool that inspires a greater understanding of Texas ecotypes and watershed dynamics. Head to the San Antonio River Foundation’s website to download a full map.

San Pedro Creek Culture Park

The San Pedro Creek Culture Park is a family-friendly linear park designed for the enjoyment of our community. This creek follows Camaron Street and flows through downtown’s Northwest corner. While riding along the paseos, you will be able to view beautiful art that lines the creek. You may also see a few turtles and wading birds trying to catch their food. Make a stop at Mustard Seed Plaza (pictured below) for a rest before continuing your ride. Expert Tip: Some of the trails can get really narrow, so we recommend sticking to the upper paseos on street level!

Location: 208 N. Sunset Strip, Kennedy, Texas 78119

Escondido Park

Escondido Creek Parkway (ECP) is an attractive, linear nature-based park where all can come and enjoy nature. As the new favorite outdoor hub in the City of Kenedy, ECP offers paved trails which consist of a 1.15-mile loop. Other park amenities include a skate park, horned toad habitat, a playground, a pavilion, and even a splash pad for kids to enjoy.

And yes, bikes are welcome! On May 4, 2024, the San Antonio River Authority will be hosting the annual Kick Off to Summer Bike Rodeo and we would love to see you all out there!
