Get Involved!

River Warrior volunteers taking part in post storm event cleanup on the Mission Reach San Antonio River Walk segment

The River Warriors are registered River Authority volunteers over the age of 15 who are inspired and energized by our work and want to support the health of the San Antonio River Basin by becoming ambassadors for the San Antonio River. Register to receive monthly education and volunteer opportunities organized by River Authority staff as well as external partners. In accordance with public health recommendations regarding COVID-19 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), City of San Antonio, Bexar County, and the State of Texas, the River Authority is currently hosting virtual training opportunities for our River Warriors rather than in-person events.

pet waste

Stormwater runoff, or non-point source pollution, is the biggest water quality threat in the San Antonio River Basin. Another way to get involved is by doing your part to prevent runoff from reaching creeks and rivers like turning your downspouts on your lawn or landscaping to help filter the water before it reaches the storm drains and picking up after your pets to prevent their waste from reaching storm drains.

Get Informed!

The River Authority recently launched the inaugural San Antonio River Basin Report Card to shine a light on the healthy and the unhealthy aspects of the basin in order to educate the public and serve as a catalyst for community discussions that lead to individual choices and public policy decisions, actions, and investments that support a sustainable San Antonio River Basin. We invite you to view the report card to learn more about the 12 indicators that were used to determine the current grade and what you can do to help improve future scores.

You can also request a presentation from a River Authority staff member! Presentations include a wide variety of important River Authority information such as how to assess your home's flood risk, a review of San Antonio River Basin water quality, an explanation about the significance of sustainable, green infrastructure, details about the parks and paddling trails along the river, and ways that you can “Be River Proud” and join us in our efforts to protect and preserve our creeks and rivers.
