Artwork will be integrated into new shade structure at AME Church

WHAT: The San Antonio River Foundation (Foundation) is inviting youth ages 8-18 to join former City of San Antonio Poet Laureate Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson for a workshop to create poetry that will be integrated into the artwork Presence of the Past, coming to San Pedro Creek (SPC) in 2024. The artwork is part of the Foundation’s St. James AMEC Culture Crossing Design Enhancements project and will help honor and preserve the archaeological footprint and original foundation of the St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME Church) while also serving as a permanent shade structure for park goers to enjoy. This will mark the second event in a series of community engagement opportunities leading up to the artwork installation in spring 2024. For more event information, visit sariverfound.org

SASPAMCO Paddling Trail Temporarily Closed

Staff have removed two large log jams just downstream of Helton Nature Park, keeping the southern portion of the SASPAMCO Paddling Trail temporarily closed. Staff are working to contact adjacent landowners to support a land-based removal solution.

Goliad Paddling Trail Alert

NOTICE: HWY 59 Landing Site Closed

Due to TxDOT construction on the HWY 59 Bridge, the HWY 59 landing site is closed until further notice. However, the Goliad Paddling Trail remains open, and paddlers can still access the river at the Riverdale, Ferry Street, and Goliad State Park landings.

Please plan accordingly and check back for updates.
