STOCKDALE, TX – The San Antonio River Authority (River Authority) in partnership with Wilson County are hosting a free Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on Saturday, October 19, from 8 a.m. – noon, at Precinct 4 Yard, 104 Mesquite Street in Stockdale. Wilson County residents are encouraged to show their river pride by stopping by to dispose of unwanted household hazardous waste, tires, electronics, and unused pharmaceuticals.

“The successful relationship between Wilson County and the River Authority allows us to provide residents in our community with a safe and secure venue for disposing of household hazardous waste,” said Wilson County Judge Richard L. Jackson. “Through events like this, we can maintain a cleaner environment for our residents and protect our rivers and streams.”

This collection event is solely for household hazardous waste, tires, and pharmaceuticals. Accepted items include paint, motor oil, oil filters, cleaning products, tires without the rim, small electronic appliances, computer components, televisions, and unwanted pharmaceuticals. The Wilson County Sheriff’s office collects and stores all pharmaceuticals until a certified medical waste vendor picks them up for proper disposal. Materials will be collected on a first-come, first-served basis.

“We collected a record amount of household hazardous waste at our spring collection event that took place last March in Wilson County by gathering 34,000 pounds of waste,” said Dr. Darrell Brownlow, River Authority chairman and Wilson County board member. “We encourage residents to show their river pride by participating in October’s event.”

Items such as large appliances, tires on the rim, construction debris, and scrap metal cannot be accepted. For a full list of items that will or will not be accepted, contact Meera Keshav, River Authority Intergovernmental Relations Coordinator, at 1-866-345-7272, ext. 3228, or visit the events page of the River Authority’s website at sara-tx.org.
