SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio River Authority (River Authority) announced today that it has created a Utilities Development Advisory Committee (UDAC) with the goal to promote sustainable development within the agency’s water and wastewater service areas. The River Authority is seeking nominations for members of the UDAC via an online form on the agency’s website starting August 17 through September 18.

“Our wastewater systems serve a rapidly developing area of eastern Bexar County and creating the UDAC provides representatives of the development community and residents the opportunity to regularly engage with our team to ensure that our wastewater system continues to provide the most effective service,” said River Authority General Manager Suzanne Scott. “Quality wastewater service is a basic need for communities to thrive and is essential to protect public health and water quality in our creeks and rivers.”

The committee will be co-chaired by two individuals appointed by the River Authority Board of Directors upon recommendation of the River Authority Operations Committee and will have a maximum of 11 members, but not less than five. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements in order to be considered.

On May 20, 2020, the River Authority Board of Directors adopted the Utility Service Regulations (“USR”) which will help provide guidance and streamline the process for extending service to new customers. The USR will help meet the River Authority’s goal to provide excellent customer service through clear expectations when developers and new customers are interacting with the agency’s utility system.

“The UDAC will advise and assist the River Authority with the adoption, implementation, review, and updates of its land use assumptions, capital improvements plan (CIP), impact fees, and other development-related fees and charges,” said River Authority Utilities Manager Amy Middleton. “We are looking forward to the nomination process and are here to provide guidance and support to anyone with interest in applying.”

The River Authority is a full-service wastewater utility provider within its district. The River Authority owns, operates, and maintains five wastewater treatment plants and collection systems in northeast Bexar County as well as managing the Randolph Air Force Base wastewater system. The agency serves wholesale customers which include the cities of Converse, City of Live Oak, Schertz, and Universal City in addition to Green Valley Special Utility District.  We also provide contracted wastewater services to the cities of Elmendorf, La Vernia, and Somerset.

The public is encouraged to visit sariverauthority.org to learn more about the UDAC, its eligibility requirements and to access the online nomination form.
